After an extremely short lived career in advertising planning working on big yellow phone directories, gaming consoles, tampons and telcos in the mainstream and digital planning space, I worked freelance as a creative strategist for innovation companies like Pophouse and Whatif?! Innovation doing brand planning, social trend / futures research & new product development. I thoroughly enjoyed the social trend research, spent an inordinate amount of time looking at data and writing future scenario platforms to help product development teams springboard into new ideas.
I also ran a marketing agency and street art gallery in Second Life until it became apparent that 10c per virtual canvas was never going to make enough to sustain even a virtual existence, I subsequently left to return to the First Life.
I used to write Innovation Feeder and a few other equally un-read blogs a lot more regularly until I had children. Children are really tiring. I work most seriously at my real job at Eco Outdoor and spend the rest of my time intellectually wandering as much as I am able.
I like new technology and emotional architecture that creates a sense of place. I love photography & street art, I’m currently obsessing over patient reported healthcare models and keenly enjoy anything from the Helvetica font family. I dislike unfiltered social contact, work meetings and people who insist on calculating their portion of a shared bill.
William James would say “our experience (of life) is that which we attend to” and so right now I’m currently enjoying the imaginations and insight of Atul Gawande, Mary Oliver, Parker Palmer and Maria Popova. Not necessarily in that order.
